University Grant Commission (UGC) Secretary Manish R Joshi reported to The New Indian Express that Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are actively embracing the 2020 New Education Policy (NEP) due to its student-centric education policies. Joshi, speaking at Coimbatore Airport, highlighted Tamil Nadu's commitment to providing quality higher education.
According to Joshi, the NEP offers student-centric education policies, providing better opportunities, flexibility, and freedom. HEIs are willingly implementing the NEP to enhance students' knowledge across various areas. Joshi mentioned the enthusiasm displayed by students and teachers during a recent interaction organized by Anna University regarding the NEP. Additionally, he noted the appointment of student ambassadors, known as NEP SAARATHI, tasked with creating awareness about the NEP's benefits among HEI students.
Joshi pointed out a notable feature of the NEP, allowing students to write final exams in their mother tongue, even if the courses are delivered in English. This aspect has generated increased enthusiasm among students.
Addressing concerns about the challenges in implementing the NEP, Joshi emphasized that there are no inherent difficulties. He underscored the potential knowledge gap that could arise from not adopting the NEP and highlighted its necessity for holistic education, given the high aspirations of students in the current educational landscape.
